As of October 2010, Nico Nico Douga had over 18,900,000 registered users. It’ll be interesting to see if the English site can take off, either with users overseas or with English-speaking Japanese. The new site will allow current Nico Nico users to login with their regular credentials.
Anime News Network points out that ‘Join Premium’ is listed at the top of the new page, but currently the there is no link. The Japanese site does offer premium membership, and has over a million premium users.
To promote the new English site Nico Nico Douga has also put a Facebook page in place, but at the time of writing there are only about 700 fans. We’ll have to wait and see if it catches on.
